About Jewelry
Jewelry is basically something which is used as an ornament made for personal use. There are a number of different types of jewelry, and they include bracelets, necklaces, or rings. Jewelry can be made from precious metals, gemstones, or other materials as well. The origin of the word jewelry is the word jouel. This word is from the language Old French, and it was in the thirteenth century that this word was anglicized to form the word jewelry.

Another word from which the word could have been derived from is Jew. This is because at that time the Jews were very important as artisans of jewelry. The Latin word jocale, which means plaything, can also be a source of the word jewelry, but this is traced back before the word Jew and jouel.

Jewelry has the status of being a body adornment which is among the oldest forms. Beads have been found recently which date back to one hundred thousand years. These beads were made out of Nassarius shells, and it can be said that there it is one of the oldest jewelry which is known.

In early times the use of jewelry was for practical purposes. Jewelry was used to pin clothes together, for storage, and as wealth. But in recent times the use of jewelry is for mostly decorative purposes. The earliest jewelry pieces were made out of bone, stone, wood, animal teeth, wood, shell, and other natural materials. Those people who had a high social status used to get jewelry made for themselves in order to show their status level.
