Concept of Jewelry
In most cases there is usually a misconception that the purpose of jewelry is only for decorative purposes and as ornaments. The fact is that the concept of jewelry is completely different concept. There are a number of different used of jewelry. It can be used to display the amount of wealth a person has and for storage. It is also used for practical purposes such as to pin clothes together, as a clasp, or a buckle.

An artistic display is a reason for jewelry, and so is using it to make magical wards and amulets for protection, usually against evil.

In most of the cultures there is a practice that large amounts of wealth is stored. The form in which this wealth is stored is as jewelry. Wedding dowries in a lot of cultures are also in the form of jewelry. Another concept of jewelry is as a method to display or store coins. Jewelry is also used as a good of trade, or a currency. An example of this concept is the slave beads which were used.

In the start, there were a lot of items of jewelry which were just used for practical purposes. For example buckles and brooches were used to pin clothes together or to keep the hair in place. But they later changed into items for decoration as in time the use of jewelry as a functional product reduced.

A symbolic concept of jewelry is symbolic. It can symbolize that someone is the member of a group. For example, in Christianity jewelry is in the form of a crucifix, and in the Jewish faith jewelry is in the form or the Star of David. Another concept of jewelry is that it shows the status of the wearer.
